Old Zuari bridge for light traffic once new turns fully operational

The old Zuari bridge in Goa, which is close to 50 years old, will continue to be used for light vehicular movement despite nearing the end of its 70-year lifespan. The new four-lane section of the bridge is expected to be opened soon, reducing the traffic on the old bridge. However, officials advise against subjecting the old bridge to dead weight and recommend only light movement. The bridge underwent strengthening work a decade ago, but its structure may have weakened due to high salinity in the area. The newer Mandovi bridges were constructed with better-suited structures for local conditions.
