Kol: Choked canals to be dredged by May 2022
Irrigation and waterway principal secretary Prabhat Mishra on Wednesday informed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that dredging of Bagjola and Kestopur Canals will begin this December and be completed by next May. Prior to that, detailed project reports (DPR) for desiltation of key outfall channels work will be prepared. The clogging of these canals along with others in the city was the primary reason for the severe waterlogging in parts of north and northeast Kolkata, including localities in New Town, Salt Lake, VIP Road and BT Road, this monsoon.
