Despite ban, manual scavenging continues in Chennai
In violation of high court verdicts and government orders against manual scavenging, the Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex (KWMC) authorities allowed men to be lowered into manholes to clear sludge and waste from the drains on market premises. The men did not have any safety gear and were seen scooping the waste with their bare hands.
