Former India head coach Ravi Shastri on Monday had words of praise for Team India despite their defeat to Australia in the final of the 2023 Cricket World Cup in Ahmedabad.

Australia defeated hosts India by six wickets to claim their sixth ODI World Cup title, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

“Well played #TeamIndia. You had a terrific World Cup. You were up against a Nation with a great Sporting culture and desire. It showed on The day. Well done, Pat and Australia. @ICC @BCCI #CWC2023Final,” Shastri posted on Monday afternoon.

Earlier on Monday, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar posted on ‘X’, saying that it was just one bad day in what was otherwise a fantastic tournament for India.

“Congratulations to Australia on their sixth World Cup win. On the most important day of the biggest stage, they played better cricket.

Hard luck Team India, just one bad day in an otherwise sterling tournament can be heartbreaking. I can imagine the agony of the players, fans and well-wishers and what they must be going through. Losses are a part of the sport but let us remember that this unit gave their all for us throughout the tournament,” wrote Sachin.

Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar said that India were “brilliant” in the World Cup.

“India were brilliant in this WC. Aus were brilliant in the finals. Starting with a great decision at the toss. bowled like champs ,fielded like Champs & then finally batted like Champs. India is the best team in the world but sadly they don’t have the cup to show for it,” Manjrekar posted.

Former batter Yuvraj Singh also had words of encouragement, saying that the Men in Blue created “unforgettable memories”.

Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood combined to take seven wickets between them to dismiss India for 240, and in reply, Travis Head (137) and Marnus Labuschagne (58*) made light work of the chase, sealing the match with seven overs to spare.
