Jasprit Bumrah and Shubman Gill were the major absentees from India’s training session on Tuesday ahead of the third Test against England at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. There were multiple reports that Bumrah could be rested from Rajkot to manage his workload, but the veteran pacer was missing as he is still to join the squad. Bumrah is only expected to join the squad in Tuesday evening along with Devdutt Padikkal and Akash Deep, who also missed the training session.

Devdutt Padikkal and Akash Deep are late to join Team India camp due to sixth round of Ranji Trophy which ended on 12 February.

Gill, however, missed the training session on Tuesday as he arrived late and will practice on Wednesday. There are no injury concerns with the batter.

“No injury or health concern. He arrived late in the night and that’s why didn’t attend the session. He will be attending practice tomorrow,” a source told CricketNext.

Rohit gives batting tips to Siraj

India captain Rohit Sharma was also seen giving batting tips to pacer Mohammed Siraj during the training session, CricketNext reported. Siraj was seen facing throwdowns and net bowlers and also received multiple batting tips by Rohit who was seen talking about head position to the bowler. Rohit also shared a few words of advice with Kuldeep who was later seen batting in the nets.

With KL Rahul yet to recover and Shreyas Iyer dropped, India are short of experience in batting and will need their bowlers to contribute as much as possible.

Rajat Patidar had replaced Rahul in Visakhapatnam and is expected to hold onto his spot, while Sarfaraz khan could come in for Iyer. Dhruv Jurel is another player who can make his debut if Team India management decides against wicket-keeper KS Bharat who hasn’t been great with his batting.

Patidar and Sarfaraz do slip fielding drills

Patidar and Sarfaraz were seen standing in slip cordon during the training session, as per news agency PTI. Patidar fielded at gully, while Sarfaraz stood at first slip as Indian fielders did their training. Another highlight was Jurel doing the wicket-keeping which raised hopes that he may make his debut at Rajkot.

After slip catching training, Patidar and Sarfaraz also trained at silly point and short-leg positions respectively.

KS Bharat was seen working on his batting in the nets.

All four Indian spinners including Ravindra Jadeja also took part in the training session and bowled in the nets.
