The Joe Root move has worked for England. Yashasvi Jaiswal misses out on a century as he gives away a catch to the bowler, probably took Root a little too lightly but that was the plan for England. It was a bit fuller and Jaiswal failed to get a grip of it as the shot failed to clear Root.

Mark Wood speaks: "It was a tough day. We would have liked things to be different at the end, but sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition. They played really well. There's another opportunity this morning to get things right and try to put pressure on India. It was a good day, back and forth for both sides, probably India are just ahead at the end. We had all kinds of conditions in Abu Dhabi. This is still day one, there's still plenty of Test matches to go."

Day 2 pitch report: "365 runs and 11 wickets on the first day. It did look like a day 3 wicket as there was spin and bounce and there were odd occasions when the top was disturbed. The wicket now has a bit of wear and tear and there could be some variable bounce, the spinners will have to pull their lengths back. The lengths will be the key," reveal Murli Kartik and Kevin Pietersen.

Despite winning the toss, England were only able to make 246 as their poor batting against spin was exposed.
