India vs England LIVE Score
After 23 overs, India 119/1 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 76, Shubman Gill 14)
STUMPS ON DAY 1 — Yashasvi Jaiswal remains unbeaten on 76 off 70 with No 3 batter Shubman Gill off to a patient start as India reach 119/1 at the close of play on the opening day of the five-Test series! They trail England by another 127 runs, having bowled them out for 246 with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja collecting three wickets each.
England did fight back in phases, especially with their opening partnership as well as skipper Stokes’ rearguard that helped the visitors get within touching distance of the 250-mark. But ultimately it was India who finished the day in the driving seat. It was a day dominated by chatter around 'Bazball', and ultimately it was the Indian team that outperformed their opponents in terms of playing an aggressive brand of cricket.

After 14 overs, India 84/1 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 54, Shubman Gill 2)
New batter Shubman Gill gets off the mark with a single right away, guiding the ball through midwicket off Leach. England, meanwhile, burn the last of their reviews after an unsuccessful LBW appeal against Gill off Hartley’s bowling in the following over. The ball had additionally been caught at slip after the deflection, giving Stokes further reason to take it upstairs hoping to get a caught dismissal. No contact with the inside edge whatsoever and Hawk-Eye also shows the ball to be sailing over the stumps, much to the surprise of the Englishmen. The visitors will be at the umpire’s mercy for the remainder of the innings now.

OUT! Rohit perishes while playing a shot too many, but maybe that was the approach he had decided — attack or perish. Charges down the track against Leach looking to smash the left-arm spinner down the ground for a maximum; instead, he skies the ball towards mid on, where his English counterpart Ben Stokes pulls off a fine catch pedalling backwards. England finally break the solid opening partnership. IND 80/1

BOWLED! Bumrah cleans up Stokes with a beauty as the England skipper is the last man to fall, departing for an 88-ball 70. With that, England have been bowled out for 246 — a total that they wouldn't mind in the end given they were tottering at 155/7 at one stage with the prospect of reaching 200 looking difficult. Stokes attempts to make room shuffling to his right to a delivery that is angling down leg, only for the ball to straighten along the seam and clip the top of the stumps. Even the batter can't help but smile in admiration.

Would’ve been a tidy over for Bumrah at the start of a new spell had it not been for four extra runs getting credited to Rehan thanks to overthrows. Rehan set off for a single and was dashing back for a second when the throw came in from Siraj at deep backward square, with the ball running all the way to the extra cover fence unhindered. India vs England Day 1 LIVE: England’s Bazball style of playing is set to face its toughest Test as they take on India in a five-match Test series, starting from 25 January at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. India are a giant at home, having won the last 16 Test series. In fact their last Test series defeat at home came in 2012, but it as against England and that should give the visitors some comfort. The 2012 England, however, had star players like Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen who could play spin well and spinner like Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar who pun a web around Indian batters.
This time England are largely going to rely on Joe Root who appears to be the only batter in the lineup who has the wherewithal to fight out the Indian attack which will comprise of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. England have also opted for a strange bowling combinations where Mark Wood is the only pacer while they have gone with four spinners. Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, Jack Leach and Root are the four spinners. While Hartley is set for debut, Ahmed has only played a handful of Tests. Leach is the only experienced spinner.
With such an undercooked bowling, at least on the paper, it can prove to be a tough game for England in the first Test. India, on the other hand, are without Virat Kohli who pulled out of the first two Tests due to personal reasons. The batter has been replaced by Rajat Patidar in the squad and it will be interesting to see if he plays. KL Rahul will not keep wickets, this has been confirmed by coach Rahul Dravid, so KS Bharat or Dhruv Jurel can come in which means Patidar may not get a chance. Yashashvi Jaiswal is expected to open with Rohit Sharma, while Shubman Gill will bat at No. 3.
Shreyas Iyer at 4, KL Rahul at 5 and KS Bharat/Dhruv Jurel at 6 could be the possible combination followed by two spin-bowling allrounders in Ashwin and Jadeja, which leaves space for three specialist bowlers. Patidar can play if India decided to bring in an extra batter and only pick two specialist bowler besides Ashwin and Jadeja.
India have a proud record at home in Tests and the series will be about protecting the domination. England look weak in their spin department and with batters who can play spin, but their bold approach to the game in the Bazball era could helped them make up for it. IN such a case the hosts need to be wary of the threat and make sure that they are on the top of the game through out.
India vs England LIVE Streaming: The India vs England first Test will be shown live on Sports18 Network’s TV channels and JioCinema app and website.
