Chennai lost two-thirds of farmland in 11 years

Environmentalists have long been saying that rapid urbanisation without proper regulation would be disastrous for the city. Now, researchers from Anna University have found that Greater Chennai Region has lost two-thirds of farmland in 11 years from 2005, with outlying areas like Ambattur, Annanur, Iyyappanthangal, Manappakkam, Madipakkam, Injambakkam and Sholinganallur built up into concrete jungles.
