TN wetlands worth Rs 17,000cr a yr: Study
KMari, a 45-year-old fisherman, earns Rs 1,000 every day selling the fish he catches from Pulicat lake. There are more 10,000 fishermen like him in 32 villages around the lake who depend on it for their livelihood. Given their economic and ecological significance, the Tamil Nadu State Wetland Authority, formed to oversee more than 42,000 wetlands in the state, decided to put a value to 141 prioritised wetlands.
