Tirath Singh Rawat as Uttarakhand chief minister Exist the BJP

Rawat had courted controversy with several of his decisions. A question mark hung over whether he would be able to win his bypoll. Less than four months into his tenure, the BJP’s Tirath Singh Rawat had to tender his resignation as chief minister of Uttarakhand and was replaced by Pushkar Singh Dhami. Tirath Singh, the BJP’s ‘man on a mission in the state, had replaced Trivendra Singh Rawat in March. Trivendra Rawat had grown unpopular among party legislators because of his apparent over-dependence on bureaucrats and inability to earn the confidence of the BJP central leadership. He was also unpopular with the RSS. Tirath Singh had been appointed as CM to reverse the situation. Tirath Rawat is a simple person and during his short tenure. It will probably be said that for Rawat to retain the position, he needed to be elected into the Assembly within six months of appointment. Those six months ending in September. The challenge is that the Election Commission has suspended all elections due to the pandemic and by-elections can not be held in a state where assembly elections are just less than a year ahead. So, Rawat had to go. This is, however, just an excuse. The central government could have done something to avert a constitutional crisis in the state. A special request could have been made to the Election Commission.
