Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan: Pathum Nissanka becomes first Sri Lankan to slam double century in ODIs
Sri Lanka batter Pathum Nissanka on Friday became the first cricketer from his country to score a double century in One Day Internationals (ODI) after he slammed an unbeaten 210 off 139 balls during the first ODI against Afghanistan in Pallekele. His knock helped Sri Lanka post 381/3 in 50 overs after the hosts were asked to bat first by Afghanistan.
Nissanka’s knock consisted of 20 fours and eight sixes. He was involved in century-run stands with opener Avishka Fernando and Sadeera Samarawickrama.
The previous highest ODI score by a Sri Lankan was by Sanath Jayasuriya, when he scored 189 against India in the Champions Trophy final in 2000.
He reached the milestone in 136 deliveries, becoming the second-fastest, after Ishan Kishan scored a 126-ball double century against Bangladesh in 2022.
