Prithvi Shaw blasts century in Ranji Trophy to announce comeback to competitive cricket
Prithvi Shaw made a grand comeback to competetive cricket with a century on Friday in his second game after return for Mumbai. Shaw returned to competetive cricket in Ranji Trophy game against Bengal last week after almost a five-month gap. In a match that Mumbai won by an innings and 4 runs, Shaw scored 35 opening the batting for Mumbai. On Friday, he scored a century on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy game against Chhattisgarh.
The 24-year-old was on 158 not out at the time of publishing this report as Mumbai scored 242/0 by the Tea break. Shaw has smashed 18 fours and three sixes in his knock so far.
Shaw is back to competetive cricket for the first time since August 2023 when he injured his knee while playing for Northamptonshire in a one-day game.
Shaw had a horrific IPL 2023 for Delhi Capitals as he scored just 106 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 124.71 before being dropped. His latest century, however, has come as a good news for Capitals as they get ready to do much better in IPL 2024.
With Shaw struggling for runs and Rishabh Pant out due to a car crash accident, Delhi could only manage a ninth-place finish in a 10-team table with five wins form 14 games in IPL 2024.
Pant is expected to be fit for IPL 2024.
DC head coach Ricky Ponting recently shared that the wicketkeeper-batter is confident of playing all the matches.
“Rishabh is very confident that he’s going to be right to play. In what capacity we’re not quite sure yet. You would have seen all the social-media stuff, he’s up and about and running well. But in saying that we’re only six weeks away from the first game as well. So we’re not sure if we’ll get wicketkeeping out of him this year,” Ponting was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
