Ponmudy case: Tahsildar says no illegal mining of sand took place

More than a decade after a criminal case alleging minister K Ponmudy and his associates had illegally mined red sand and caused ₹28 crore loss to the exchequer, a tahsildar who had lodged the complaint did a U-turn before a trial court and said no such loss was caused to the government and no illegal mining of sand took place, reports Bosco Dominique. Vanur tahsildar P Kumarabalan, who lodged a complaint against Ponmudy in 2012, said his former senior officers forced him to sign the complaint against Ponmudy and others.
