North Chennai gets Rs 500 crore for an image makeover
The popular image of North Chennai as an area of closely packed homes and impossibly crowded market places is set to change if the government has its way. Noting that a mere Rs 2 crore was allocated in the past five years to the region comprising Thiruvottiyur, Manali, Madhavaram, Royapuram and Tondiarpet zones, while Rs 960 crore was lavished on the Smart City Mission in the same period, municipal administration minister K N Nehru has vowed to transform the area into a green oasis with well laid out roads and elaborate parks.
