Jasprit Bumrah reacts with Instagram post after becoming No. 1 Test bowler
Ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah shared an Instagram post after claiming the top spot in the ICC Test Bowler rankings. The achievement came on the back of Bumrah’s enthralling performance in the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam. He picked up a total of nine wickets across both innings as India clinched a convincing 106-run victory in the second Test to level the series 1-1.
Bumrah, who was third in the previous ICC Test Bowler rankings, claimed the top spot by dethroning his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin. The Indian spin magician had been the number one Test bowler since March last year.
Upon achieving the historic feat, Bumrah shared a picture on Instagram, portraying the topic– “Support vs Congratulations.” One part of the picture showed a man sitting in an empty stand, while the other portion depicted a fan-packed gallery at a stadium. Many felt that the post is a subtle dig at people, who raised questions about Bumrah when he had been out of competitive cricket due to injury issues.

Bumrah missed some key assignments in 2022 due to lower-back stress fractures. He could not feature in the Asia Cup and subsequently, in the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia for a persistent back injury. The 30-year-old speedster was sidelined for nearly 11 months before re-joining the squad ahead of a series against Ireland last year.
Bumrah was also part of the Indian side that became the 2023 Asia Cup champions. He was the country’s frontline pacer along with Mohammad Shami at the ICC ODI World Cup where India finished as the runners-up having lost in the final to Australia.
Bumrah, who made his Test debut against South Africa in 2018, has already claimed ten five-wicket hauls during his international red-ball career. Two of those five-wicket hauls have come this year. Bumrah claimed six wickets against South Africa in Cape Town last month before replicating the success on home soil against England.
This was the first time that Bumrah managed to make it to the top spot in the ICC Test Bowler rankings. He is now the fourth Indian bowler to achieve this feat following Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Bishan Singh Bedi.
