SRH were in the driver’s seat at one point, needing 38 to win off 30 deliveries with five wickets in hand. Vaibhav Arora however, struck twice towards the business end of the chase to bring Kolkata back in the game before Varun Chakravarthy bowled a heroic final over when nine were needed off six, with just three runs coming off it along with the dismissal of the dangerous Abdul Samad.
While Kolkata collected their fourth win of the season in 10 matches, Hyderabad suffered their sixth defeat in nine games. Both teams remained unchanged at the eighth and ninth spots respectively however.
Earlier in the Wednesday double-header, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) collected a point each after the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed its first washout at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
As a result of the washout, LSG and CSK have moved to the second and third spots on the points table with 11 points each, with Lucknow having the better Net Run Rate of the two. Rajasthan Royals (RR), meanwhile, have dropped to the fourth spot with 10 points from nine outings.
In the second match, Ishan Kishan (75) and Suryakumar Yadav (66) helped Mumbai Indians (MI) chase down 215 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) with six wickets and seven balls to spare in Mohali. The win helped MI climb a spot to sixth, with PBKS at seventh.
Gujarat Titans (GT) currently occupy top spot with 12 points from nine matches despite the defeat. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, remain at the bottom with just six points from nine matches following their win.
