Another rain-curtailed day, as 10 overs were lost today but we still got to see some very good cricket on display by both the teams. Indian bowlers showed their perseverance with the ball, getting NZ bowled out for 249 and limiting the lead to 32. NZ captain Kane Williamson stood out for Kiwis with bat on Day 5, showing remarkable patience and skill to craft 49 off 177 balls on a track where batting is not easy. Shami picked up a four-for and looked the best of the India bowlers. Ishant too bowled well and Ashwin, Jadeja picked up wickets. Bumrah however despite coming back strongly could not open his account. 

Rohit and Gill gave a good, solid start to India in second innings but inexperience again came back to haunt Gill as he lost his wicket playing a poor shot against swing of Southee. Rohit too played well but was done in by brilliant Southee who did not commit a single mistake in his spell today. 

Kohli and Pujara still there. India lead by 32 runs. Tomorrow, an exciting day of cricket awaits us. The weather is expected to remain cricket-friendly tomorrow and we hopefully will see full quota of overs bowled and a fair result.

Stumps, Day 5!

Jamieson bowls the last over of the day and Kohli collects six off the over. India lead by 32 runs with eight wickets in hand. Williamson's 49, Ishant and Shami's spells stand out. The game hangs in balance.

Southee to Kohli. Great contest. Three away swingers and then a short stuff, that takes the India captain by surprise. Hit the helmet and ran away for four leg byes. The contest currently being won by the bowler. Three off the next ball and Pujara blocks the last one. India lead by 26 runs.

Jamieson returns. Pujara left one on length, it was on shorter side and he felt it would go away but it kept on coming in. Some very good leaves later in the over though. Maiden. India lead by 19 runs.

Tim Southee returns and delivers. What a bowler he has been in the second innings. Set up Rohit brilliantly with two outswingers and then one that swung in sharply. Not offering the shot led to his fall. Kohli has now joined Pujara in the middle. India lead by 19 runs.

OUT! Southee returns and gets Rohit. Inswing from nowhere from Southee. Two away swinging deliveries and then this one from the exact spot, comes in sharply, Rohit did not offer any shot and paid the price for it. Umpire Gough had no hesitation to raise his finger. Wagner continues. The third ball straightened after pitching and Pujara was right behind it as he blocked. Slight error from Wagner as he goes down leg and gets punished for a boundary. India lead by 19 runs.

Jamieson continues and bowls a replica of the delivery to Rohit which had got him in the first innings, Rohit poked at it again but this time a better connection with the bat as the ball goes to man at cover-point for no run. One on the pads of Rohit and he works it with soft hands to mid-wicket region for a single. In limited overs, or against any other bowler even in this format, that may have been dispatched for six. Tells you about the mental impact Jamieson has had on Rohit.

Jamieson continues. Four dots on the trot before Rohit taps and steals a single. India playing Jamieson better in this innings, Rohit especially not looking to poke at the deliveries outside off. Pujara never touches them anyway. India lead by 8 runs.

Boult back on, replaces Jamieson, maybe change of ends for the tall bowler. A short ball for Rohit, he obviously pulls but does not connect well and it falls short of fine leg fielder. Short leg back for Pujara and Boult angles it away for him from over the wicket. The short leg is always in action with Pujara defending with soft hands. Scores level now.

Southee continues. Rohit plays two dots before taking a single on the third. Pujara treated with a boucer, he ducked to let it pass. There is a short leg in place for him. India trail by just 4 runs.

Craig McMillan informed, on air, that Gill's wicket is Southee's 600th international wicket. Huge milestone for a very good bowler. Jamieson continues to be impressive. Pitching it up to both the batters, luring them to play at it.

Gill's gone. He was playing across for quite some time, with his front leg right in front of stumps. He has paid the price for it. Southee focussed on this line for quite some time now and forced the error. Well done to the pacer for that. Pujara has joined Rohit in the middle now.

OUT! Gill is gone, he was looking to play across to Southee's straight one, the ball hit the front pads which was bang in front of the stumps. Umpire Gough immediately raised the finger and Gill walked back after Rohit told him not to use the review. Wise decision.

As expected, Jamieson is on but he starts off with a front foot no ball. He bowled outside off to Rohit for first three balls and then went fuller and slightly closer to off stump to invite Rohit for a cover drive. He fell for it and attempted a drive but missed the connection, sadly for Jamieson, the ball missed the outside edge too. Good start for Jamieson, that no ball aside.

Southee continues. Two off the first ball. Gill off to a sedate start. He is going slowly and is not looking in any sort of hurry. He played some classy shots in later half of the over though.

The 100th over of the New Zealand innings lasts just two deliveries — Southee smashing a six over deep midwicket off the first, before getting bowled by Jadeja off the next, as New Zealand end with a 32-run first innings lead — a marginal one, which could be crucial nevertheless — as players head back to their dressing rooms for tea. No five-for for Shami, and no wicket for the highly-rated Bumrah in this innings.

Two runs and a wicket from the other, and it appears the session has been extended for the Indians to try and get the remaining wicket before tea.
