That's that from us as well!

Another rain-curtailed day, as 10 overs were lost today but we still got to see some very good cricket on display by both the teams. Indian bowlers showed their perseverance with the ball, getting NZ bowled out for 249 and limiting the lead to 32. NZ captain Kane Williamson stood out for Kiwis with bat on Day 5, showing remarkable patience and skill to craft 49 off 177 balls on a track where batting is not easy. Shami picked up a four-for and looked the best of the India bowlers. Ishant too bowled well and Ashwin, Jadeja picked up wickets. Bumrah however despite coming back strongly could not open his account.

Rohit and Gill gave a good, solid start to India in second innings but inexperience again came back to haunt Gill as he lost his wicket playing a poor shot against swing of Southee. Rohit too played well but was done in by brilliant Southee who did not commit a single mistake in his spell today.

Kohli and Pujara still there. India lead by 32 runs. Tomorrow, an exciting day of cricket awaits us. The weather is expected to remain cricket-friendly tomorrow and we hopefully will see full quota of overs bowled and a fair result.

We will see you again tomorrow at 2 pm IST. Till then, take care and good bye.

23:33 (IST)

After 30 overs,India 64/2 ( Cheteshwar Pujara 12 , Virat Kohli (C) 8)

Stumps, Day 5!

Jamieson bowls the last over of the day and Kohli collects six off the over. India lead by 32 runs with eight wickets in hand. Williamson's 49, Ishant and Shami's spells stand out. The game hangs in balance.

23:27 (IST)

After 29 overs,India 58/2 ( Cheteshwar Pujara 12 , Virat Kohli (C) 3)

Southee to Kohli. Great contest. Three away swingers and then a short stuff, that takes the India captain by surprise. Hit the helmet and ran away for four leg byes. The contest currently being won by the bowler. Three off the next ball and Pujara blocks the last one. India lead by 26 runs.

23:21 (IST)

After 28 overs,India 51/2 ( Cheteshwar Pujara 12 , Virat Kohli (C) 0)

Jamieson returns. Pujara left one on length, it was on shorter side and he felt it would go away but it kept on coming in. Some very good leaves later in the over though. Maiden. India lead by 19 runs.

23:16 (IST)

After 27 overs,India 51/2 ( Cheteshwar Pujara 12 , Virat Kohli (C) 0)

Tim Southee returns and delivers. What a bowler he has been in the second innings. Set up Rohit brilliantly with two outswingers and then one that swung in sharply. Not offering the shot led to his fall. Kohli has now joined Pujara in the middle. India lead by 19 runs.

23:15 (IST)

OUT! Southee returns and gets Rohit. Inswing from nowhere from Southee. Two away swinging deliveries and then this one from the exact spot, comes in sharply, Rohit did not offer any shot and paid the price for it. Umpire Gough had no hesitation to raise his finger. India lose their second wicket. Rohit lbw b Southee 30(81)

23:11 (IST)

After 26 overs,India 51/1 ( Rohit Sharma 30 , Cheteshwar Pujara 12)

Wagner continues. The third ball straightened after pitching and Pujara was right behind it as he blocked. Slight error from Wagner as he goes down leg and gets punished for a boundary. India lead by 19 runs.

23:09 (IST)

FOUR! Wagner bowls it down the leg stump line and Pujara works it fine leg region where Jamieson makes a mess of the stop.

Fifty up for India with the boundary.

23:08 (IST)

After 25 overs,India 47/1 ( Rohit Sharma 30 , Cheteshwar Pujara 8)

Jamieson continues. He is thinking every ball. The fifth ball of the over was bowled from wider of the crease and he rolled his finger to bowl a faster off spinner. Rohit was cautious but definitely got surprised. Two off the over.

23:02 (IST)

After 24 overs,India 45/1 ( Rohit Sharma 28 , Cheteshwar Pujara 8)

Wagner continues. Three runs off the bat of Rohit. He is getting better. India need him to stand there till the stumps. India lead by 13 runs.

22:58 (IST)

Pathan urges India to make a "game out of it"

22:58 (IST)

After 23 overs,India 42/1 ( Rohit Sharma 25 , Cheteshwar Pujara 8)

Jamieson continues and bowls a replica of the delivery to Rohit which had got him in the first innings, Rohit poked at it again but this time a better connection with the bat as the ball goes to man at cover-point for no run. One on the pads of Rohit and he works it with soft hands to mid-wicket region for a single. In limited overs, or against any other bowler even in this format, that may have been dispatched for six. Tells you about the mental impact Jamieson has had on Rohit.

22:53 (IST)

After 22 overs,India 41/1 ( Rohit Sharma 24 , Cheteshwar Pujara 8)

Neil Wagner, left-arm fast medium, is into the attack after 21 overs. His battle with Pujara begins. Wagner had three attempts at Pujara in the over, first ball shaping in and the remaining angled away. One off the over. India lead by 9 runs.

22:51 (IST)

Couple of unruly spectators ejected from the Rose Bowl

22:49 (IST)

After 21 overs,India 40/1 ( Rohit Sharma 23 , Cheteshwar Pujara 8)

Jamieson continues. Four dots on the trot before Rohit taps and steals a single. India playing Jamieson better in this innings, Rohit especially not looking to poke at the deliveries outside off. Pujara never touches them anyway. India lead by 8 runs.

22:45 (IST)

After 20 overs,India 39/1 ( Rohit Sharma 22 , Cheteshwar Pujara 8)

Pujara collects a fine boundary in the over. His first in this innings. Kohli would not mind a little bit of aggression from his batters every now and then. India lead by 7 runs.

22:43 (IST)

FOUR! Lovely from Pujara, fuller from round the stumps from Boult and Pujara wristly works it through past the non striker for a four

22:41 (IST)

After 19 overs,India 35/1 ( Rohit Sharma 22 , Cheteshwar Pujara 4)

Jamieson continues. Six dots on the trot for him. Maybe it is time to give Jaimeson Wagner as a bowling partner. In the first innings, they kept things tight from both the ends. India now lead by 3 runs.

22:37 (IST)

After 18 overs,India 35/1 ( Rohit Sharma 22 , Cheteshwar Pujara 4)

Boult continues. He now comes round the stumps to Pujara, working on a different angle to make a difference. It is a maiden. Boult's working hard on his game as NZ look for second wicket.

22:32 (IST)

After 17 overs,India 35/1 ( Rohit Sharma 22 , Cheteshwar Pujara 4)

Rohit has looked nervous against Jamieson in both the innings. He is having issues adjusting to different lines from Jamieson. He played the last ball well, very late and the bat face towards the cover region, collected two square on the off side.

22:28 (IST)

After 16 overs,India 33/1 ( Rohit Sharma 20 , Cheteshwar Pujara 4)

Boult continues after drinks break. India now lead by 1 run. Pujara quite comfortable against Boult who is pitching to slightly short to India's No 3. He defended all deliveried easily on front foot.

22:20 (IST)

After 15 overs,India 32/1 ( Rohit Sharma 19 , Cheteshwar Pujara 4)

Yes, change of ends for Jamieson, comes from the end Southee was bowling, maybe because of direction of wind. He is on the mark from the word go. Fuller around off stump. Pujara plays him cautiously. Playing late and right under eye line. Drinks called.

22:16 (IST)

After 14 overs,India 32/1 ( Rohit Sharma 19 , Cheteshwar Pujara 4)

Boult back on, replaces Jamieson, maybe change of ends for the tall bowler. A short ball for Rohit, he obviously pulls but does not connect well and it falls short of fine leg fielder. Short leg back for Pujara and Boult angles it away for him from over the wicket. The short leg is always in action with Pujara defending with soft hands. Scores level now.

22:11 (IST)

After 13 overs,India 28/1 ( Rohit Sharma 18 , Cheteshwar Pujara 1)

Southee continues. Rohit plays two dots before taking a single on the third. Pujara treated with a boucer, he ducked to let it pass. There is a short leg in place for him. India trail by just 4 runs.

22:07 (IST)

After 12 overs,India 27/1 ( Rohit Sharma 17 , Cheteshwar Pujara 1)

Craig McMillan informed, on air, that Gill's wicket is Southee's 600th international wicket. Huge milestone for a very good bowler. Jamieson continues to be impressive. Pitching it up to both the batters, luring them to play at it.

22:05 (IST)

Gill's penchant for the pull shot shows in this stat

22:03 (IST)

After 11 overs,India 27/1 ( Rohit Sharma 17 , Cheteshwar Pujara 1)

Gill's gone. He was playing across for quite some time, with his front leg right in front of stumps. He has paid the price for it. Southee focussed on this line for quite some time now and forced the error. Well done to the pacer for that. Pujara has joined Rohit in the middle now.

22:00 (IST)

OUT! Gill is gone, he was looking to play across to Southee's straight one, the ball hit the front pads which was bang in front of the stumps. Umpire Gough immediately raised the finger and Gill walked back after Rohit told him not to use the review. Wise decision.
Shubman Gill lbw b Southee 8(33)

21:56 (IST)

After 10 overs,India 24/0 ( Rohit Sharma 15 , Shubman Gill 8)

As expected, Jamieson is on but he starts off with a front foot no ball. He bowled outside off to Rohit for first three balls and then went fuller and slightly closer to off stump to invite Rohit for a cover drive. He fell for it and attempted a drive but missed the connection, sadly for Jamieson, the ball missed the outside edge too. Good start for Jamieson, that no ball aside.

21:50 (IST)

After 9 overs,India 21/0 ( Rohit Sharma 13 , Shubman Gill 8)

Southee continues. Two off the first ball. Gill off to a sedate start. He is going slowly and is not looking in any sort of hurry. He played some classy shots in later half of the over though.

21:46 (IST)

After 8 overs,India 15/0 ( Rohit Sharma 13 , Shubman Gill 2)

Boult continues. NZ bowlers not looking as threatening as the first innings right now. Maybe there is a need to bring in Jamieson early. Why hide someone who picked a five-for in first innings for so long? Southee and Boult getting shape but Indian openers have not looked uncomfortable so far.

21:45 (IST)

FOUR! Too straight from Boult and Rohit works it to fine leg boundary for four runs

21:42 (IST)

After 7 overs,India 11/0 ( Rohit Sharma 9 , Shubman Gill 2)

Southee continues. He is bowling fuller to Rohit, there is an element of risk involved with it as both the openers like to attack and can go after the bowling but it also gives Southee a chance to get a wicket.

21:39 (IST)

After 6 overs,India 11/0 ( Rohit Sharma 9 , Shubman Gill 2)

Boult continues. Rohit plays a top shot through cover point to stamp authority in the last over. The margin of error on off stump is very less when it comes to Rohit. Just sheer class when he is in his elements.

21:38 (IST)

FOUR! Lovely hands from Rohit, short and he hits it through cover-point region for a boundary.

21:38 (IST)

After 5 overs,India 7/0 ( Rohit Sharma 5 , Shubman Gill 2)

Good thing from India's perspective is that the sun is out and the openers are not looking to just guard the crease but score runs. First objective is to finish the lead. One off the over.

21:30 (IST)

After 4 overs,India 6/0 ( Rohit Sharma 4 , Shubman Gill 2)

Gill gets off the mark on the first ball of this new Boult over. Huge LBW appeal against him on the second ball but going down leg it seems and NZ don't go for a review after umpire Illingworth turns it down. Two off the over.

21:26 (IST)

After 3 overs,India 4/0 ( Rohit Sharma 4 , Shubman Gill 0)

Good swing for Southee. Rohit needs to be vary of the push shots he is playing. That led to his fall in the first innings. Must look to play with the swing. Maiden over.

21:21 (IST)

After 2 overs,India 4/0 ( Rohit Sharma 4 , Shubman Gill 0)

Trent Boult, left arm medium pace, bowls from the other end. Rohit takes a single off the second ball and then Gill plays four dots on the trot. He is still to get off the mark.

21:17 (IST)

After 1 over, India 3/0 ( Rohit Sharma 3 , Shubman Gill 0)

Southee starts off proceedings in the second innings. Outside edge off Rohit's bat fetches his three runs at third man. Southee getting nice shape on the ball. The swing in air persists as New Zealand pacers begin bowling. The last ball came back in to Gill and was very close to the off stump. Three off the first over.

21:12 (IST)

Alright then, India out to bat again. Rohit Sharma (RHB) and Shubman Gill (RHB) open innings as expected. Tim Southee, right arm medium fast, to bowl the first over.

Here we go!

20:55 (IST)

After 99.2 overs,New Zealand 249/10 ( Trent Boult 7 , )

The 100th over of the New Zealand innings lasts just two deliveries — Southee smashing a six over deep midwicket off the first, before getting bowled by Jadeja off the next, as New Zealand end with a 32-run first innings lead — a marginal one, which could be crucial nevertheless — as players head back to their dressing rooms for tea. No five-for for Shami, and no wicket for the highly-rated Bumrah in this innings.

20:53 (IST)

BOWLED EM! Jadeja grabs the remaining wicket as Southee ends up getting a thick inside edge, with the ball deflecting off his pad before hitting the furniture! New Zealand have been bowled out for 249 with a lead of 32, and that's tea on Day 5!

Southee b Jadeja 30(46)

20:52 (IST)

SIX! Southee rocks back and clobbers the ball over the midwicket fence to collect his second six! NZ 249/9

20:51 (IST)

After 99 overs,New Zealand 243/9 ( Tim Southee 24 , Trent Boult 7)

Ashwin continues with a slip and a leg slip in place, the latter standing a little wide. Southee, meanwhile, runs the ball down the ground off the last delivery to keep the strike, with just one from the over.

20:48 (IST)

After 98 overs,New Zealand 242/9 ( Tim Southee 23 , Trent Boult 7)

Shami in place of Ishant as he hopes to collect a five-for while bringing the New Zealand innings to an end. Boult, meanwhile, further frustrates Kohli and Co by lofting the ball down the ground off the third delivery for a four. Boult then shuffles to his right and whips the ball behind square for a brace off the last delivery. Six from the over.

20:46 (IST)

FOUR! Boult, exposing all three stumps, goes for a lofted drive over mid on off Shami! These lower-order runs will frustrate the Indians no doubt. NZ 240/9

20:45 (IST)

After 97 overs,New Zealand 236/9 ( Tim Southee 23 , Trent Boult 1)

New Zealand lose their ninth wicket as Wagner’s caught at the lone slip position to depart for a duck and give Ashwin his second wicket. A no-ball and a single later, Southee is adjudged caught at slip while attempting a sweep, although he overturns it after opting for the review right away, which confirms no connection with his glove, and shows nothing in favour of the bowler in LBW either. Two runs and a wicket from the other, and it appears the session has been extended for the Indians to try and get the remaining wicket before tea.

20:39 (IST)

OUT! Ashwin has his second wicket as Rahane holds on to a fine catch at the lone slip position, resulting in Wagner's exit for a duck. Bit of a fumble by the vice-captain, but he manages to catch it off the rebound anyway. NZ 234/9

Wagner c Rahane b Ashwin 0(5)

20:36 (IST)

After 96 overs,New Zealand 234/8 ( Tim Southee 23 , Neil Wagner 0 )

Some handy runs for the Black Caps with the second session almost coming to an end, as Southee clobbers the ball over long on for the second maximum of the innings, and follows it up with a brace four deliveries later, flicking a low full toss through square leg. Fine stop at extra cover in the last delivery helps end the over with a dot.

India vs New Zealand WTC Final Day 5 Live Cricket Score Updates: Stumps, Day 5! Jamieson bowls the last over of the day and Kohli collects six off the over. India lead by 32 runs with eight wickets in hand. Williamson's 49, Ishant and Shami's spells stand out. The game hangs in balance.

Day 4 report: The fickle English weather played spoilsport in a game promising high quality contest as day four of the inaugural World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand was washed out due to rain.

For the second time in the one-off clash, a whole day was lost after no play was possible also on the opening day.

With the weather not improving since morning at the Hampshire Bowl, the umpires took the call almost four hours and 30 minutes after the scheduled start time of 10.30 am local time (3 pm IST).

Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli pose with Test Championship Mace. Twitter/@BCCI

"Day four of the #WTC21 Final has been abandoned due to persistent rain," read an ICC update.

The fans who were patiently waiting for the play to start had to leave disappointed.

"We thank our fans who turned up and kept the tempo high. See you again, tomorrow," the BCCI added.

Rain is not forecast for the remaining two days of the big final but it is likely to remain overcast as it has been the case so far when play did take place. When it wasn't the rain, bad light stopped play on both day two and day three.

A maximum of 196 overs can be played in the game to force a result. The trophy will be shared if the game is drawn.

The final was nicely poised at stumps on day three with New Zealand reaching 101 for two in response to India's 217 all out. The Black Caps however remain in control of the game despite a late strike from Ishant Sharma close to stumps.

Weather has played havoc with the first ever World Test Championship final and former cricketers including Kevin Pietersen has questioned the scheduling of the game in the UK.

"It pains me to say it, but a ONE OFF & incredibly important cricket game should NOT be played in the UK," tweeted the former England batsman, who wants these kind of games to be played in the UAE with minimal chance of weather intervention.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag was also among the ones who questioned ICC's decision to host the final in Southampton.
