Shahid Ali, a 36-year-old from Assam, escaped death by leaping from the second-floor balcony of a burning hotel in Jessore, Bangladesh. The hotel, owned by an Awami League leader, was set ablaze by a violent mob, causing injuries to over 100 people and killing 24. Shahid and his brother Faizan, who suffered burn injuries, managed to flee to India. Shahid is now under medical care in Kolkata.
