Bengaluru: Safety harness must for kids below 4 years on bikes
Starting mid-July, Karnataka’s RTOs will penalize riders carrying children under four years old without a safety harness: Rs 500 for the first offense and Rs 1,000 for subsequent violations. Awareness drives will precede enforcement, focusing on preschools and kindergartens. Harness belts cost between Rs 400 and Rs 2,200. C Mallikarjuna, additional commissioner of the transport department, stressed the rule’s importance for child safety, citing common unsafe practices. Awareness campaigns will target parents, school managements, and two-wheeler distributors, with plans to involve the department of school education.
