The build-up to the fifth World Cup meeting between the two subcontinental teams however, has been dominated with discussions surrounding air quality in New Delhi.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital region has reached critical levels after crossing the 400-mark, with the Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi teams cancelling a training session each in the build-up, doubts persisted over the possibility of the match even going ahead.
Sri Lanka, however, have since clarified they have not asked for a venue change, and the ICC, who have consulted renowned pulmonologist Randeep Guleria for conducting a match in such dire conditions, have insisted the match will go ahead as scheduled.
Bangladesh have already been eliminated from the race to the semi-finals. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, are only mathematically alive in that race but will need a series of extraordinary results for them to qualify for for the knockouts.
Sri Lanka had beaten Bangladesh in each of their first three World Cup meetings in 2003, 2007 and 2015. The fourth meeting in the 2019 edition in Bristol was rained off without a ball bowled.
