Rs 600 crore fund booster to Hyd's MMTS phase 2

In a big push to Hyderabad's Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS), Rs 600 crore has been earmarked in the Union budget for resumption of phase-2 work. Launched a decade ago in 2012-13 at a sanctioned cost of Rs 817 crore, the second phase of MMTS was stalled owing to lack of funds. Over time, the cost has escalated to Rs 1,150. "Though the Telangana government has not kept its promise and paid its share of the project cost, we are disbursing these funds as we do not want people to suffer," said Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during his virtual media address on Friday.
